I have a huge blog which is connected to a company website. This blog is full with dead links and spam comments. Is it worth to clean up?

The website itself ranks very well in search engines. I'm amazed with all de spam that it still ranks. Do you think by removing all de dead links and spam the site will improve ranking in search results?

@bill369 Cleaning up dead links and spam comments from your blog can have several benefits, both for the user experience and for your website's search engine ranking.

        1. Improved User Experience: Removing dead links and spam comments enhances the overall user experience of your blog. Users are more likely to trust and engage with your content if they don't encounter broken links or irrelevant comments. A cleaner and more professional blog can lead to increased reader satisfaction and retention.

        2. Enhanced Credibility: A blog free from dead links and spam comments appears more credible and authoritative to both users and search engines. Visitors are more likely to trust the information provided on your blog, which can lead to higher levels of engagement and conversion.

        3. Better SEO Performance: Search engines consider various factors when determining the ranking of a website in search results. While spam comments and dead links may not directly impact your website's ranking, they can indirectly affect factors such as user engagement, dwell time, and bounce rate. By cleaning up your blog and providing a better user experience, you may see improvements in these metrics, which can positively impact your search engine ranking over time.

        4. Prevention of Penalties: In some cases, search engines may penalize websites with a high volume of spam comments or excessive broken links. By proactively removing these elements from your blog, you can avoid potential penalties and maintain or improve your website's search engine ranking.

Overall, while cleaning up dead links and spam comments may require time and effort, it can yield significant benefits in terms of user experience, credibility, and search engine visibility. As your website already ranks well in search engines despite the presence of spam, addressing these issues could further enhance its performance and reputation in the long run.

        Best Regards,
        Danial Vettori.

We have improved our company's organic SEO by writing “ever-green content marketing” and building quality links. We did this for a Cardiff fencing business; it's how we got it onto the first page, and that business has been on the first page for a long time. So, we would recommend writing white hat, blog posts, which your businesses customers will find useful to read.

Yes correct the blog is site.com/blog and has high quality content with many high ranking pages and high quality score. I will clean it up and try to maintain it again as the blog has not been looked after for a while and can be a good source for extra traffic.

Many thanks for all comments it really helps!

When you say "connected," you mean the blog lives ON your company site. For instance: your-site.com/blog

I would agree with ILNA and say, without any more information to go off of, it is more than likely worth it to clean up and continue to keep updated with quality and relevant content.

It would be a shame to wast good content, especially if the site has a decent score. However, I would only take the time to clean the site up, if you intend on maintaining the site in the future. If you are using WordPress, there are some plugins that can help you with SPAM and dead links.

Is it safe to add a Backlink on all pages on another website?

I got a few old websites and I would like to add a do-follow backlink on all pages linking to a new website. Is this SEO safe to do so?

Social Media Profile and Website content dupe content issues ?

Is there a dupe content issue if your social media profiles and website have same content/copy ? For example if you have written great copy for your website home page then literally copy & paste that into your G+ co page introduction (since sums everything up perfectly and don't want to change it) would that have a negative effect or be perfectly ok ? cheers dan

How does Google Detect which keywords my website should show up for in the SE?

When I checked my Google Webmaster Tools I found that my website is showing up for keywords that I didn't optimize for ... for example I optimize my website for "funny pictures with captions", and the website is showing up for "funny images with captions". I know that this is good, but the keyword is dancing all around, sometimes I search for "funny pictures with captions" and I show up in the 7th page, and some time I don't show up. and the same goes for the other keyword. of course I am optimizing for more than two keywords but the results is not consistent. my question is how does Google decide which keywords you website should show up for? Is it the on-page keywords?, or is it the off-page anchor text keywords? Thank you in advance ...

Getting access to clients websites for onsite seo

I understand on site seo fine, as I have tweeked up my own website a fair bit. But I am thinking about doing Onsite and Offsite SEO for clients, as I have had a few request now. So my question is what is the best way to get access to clients websites. So I can make the required adjustments. I have one client, who had a company create a website for him, but they have since closed down.

Is it worth De-duplicating a large e-commerce website?

Hi all, Most e-commerce websites use the same product description as the manufacturers. We know duplicate content is a huge negative for SEO. We are thinking about de-duplicating ours but our website is so big - it has tens of thousands of products. To de-duplicate it would require a ton of resources. Do you think it's worth it to go ahead de-duplicate our website? Do you have a website where de-duplication was done and did you see any positive result? (if so, did you see a certain percentage increase?) Thank you in advance

Redirect a blog category page to the homepage?

Hi folks Following Penguin 1.1, I have a client site at number 5 for their primary keyword. (was creeping up page 2 with whitehat link building and tight on-site SEO.) However now the page ranking at No. 5 is for a blog category archive. What do people think the quickest / safest way to get this ranking directed back to the homepage is? Many thanks Simon

My homepage no longer ranks for a keyword, instead a page from the blog now appears in the results

Hello, Our site used to rank for a specific keyword - "eco products", with a link going to the homepage. However, in the last few weeks, we've noticed that the home page no longer ranks for this keyword, and instead the second result on the page is a link to a catagory page on our blog. I'd be very grateful if anyone had any information about why this might have happened, and what possible steps I could take to remedy the situation. Many thanks, Sophy
