Negative SEO & How long does it take for Google to disavow

Following on from a previous problem of this sweetandsavorymeals completely dropping from index, we have discovered that 150+ spam, porn domains have been directed at our pages (sometime in the last 3-4 months, don't have an exact date).
Does anyone have exerpeince on how long it may take Google to take noticed of a new disavow list? Any estimates would be very helpful in determining our next course of action.

When/ What Links to Disavow?
We have an older website started in 2000. We have thousands of backlinks which we believe are hurting us. Starting with Panda our site has been devastated, traffic wise, from a million + page views a month to 1/3 of that now. We've never solicited links, never paid for them, they just happened. It seems every "search engine" and spammy site on the web has links to us. Hundreds if not thousands from sites like , 29searchengines.com, 55 searchengines.net, and on and on.. 1. How does a site know when the links are harmful?

Article submission web-sites and SEO
Does article submission web-sites have any impact to SEO in these days? There are a lot of good/not so good article submission databases, but does it really matter if you spend a time to write unique articles for them? I mean, is it a good way for link-building, or should I spend more time for other parts of SEO? There are also a special websites (for example SubmitYourArticle) which automate this process, does it make sense to use this services? Alternates? Showing For Long Tail Keywords - Not Targeted?
Hello, Is it normal for Organic traffic to show for keywords or phrases that I am not even targeting? All of this traffic spiked within a couple days and I cant figure out why? I ve been building backlinks, doing all the correct things. Just took me by surprise. Typically when you begin showing organically is it usually a slow progression? Thanks so much!

Can I start SEO before finishing my website?
Hi, I'm new to SEO and websites. I'm slowly building a website at the moment. I was wondering if I could set up a blog at the domain name I will use for my final website and begin doing SEO. Eg. I set up a blog using a CMS like Squarespace and begin blogging at domain.com/blog (with links to the domain.com/blog from the domain.com home page) and inbound links point to the domain.com 'front page'. And then add the design of the 'front page' of the website using Squarespace at a later stage eg. domain.com. Is this a good idea? Will it work? I'm anxious to get started on SEO. Thanks!

How does it take after getting links discovered by google to see increase in rankings?
Five of my friends linked to my site from their website and updated their sites through Google Webmaster tools right after linking to my site. Though the Google spider crawled the site as soon as they updated their pages, it still took about three weeks for my site to get a bump in the serps from their links. Why does it take that long for links to kick in and what is the average time it normally takes to see an increase in ranking from links once Google discovers them? Thanks mozzers! Ron

What is the role of nofollow in SEO backlinking?
I'm checking out my competition on opensiteexplorer, who does quite well for the main keyword. I see that 40% - 60% of the backlinks are ref="nofollow" is there any benefit to such links? if i hire a linkbuilder, should I ever accept nofollow links? can u explain please update 1/18/12 i apologize, i mistyped. i was referring to ref="nofollow"
