Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day Eve, Moz Community!

As I got on here to ask this question, I saw my previous questions and remembered how awesome this community is.  I also can't wait until Mozcon, but I digress.

Anyway.  We are a travel agency.  One of my websites is to support the Destination Wedding part of our business.  Each of the weddings gets their own page where we list information about the event as well as a guest list of who all has booked to attend the wedding.  After the wedding, the page is automatically unpublished.  This leads to a TON of 404s on all of the past wedding pages.  Also, even the current pages I don't feel add a lot of SEO value to the site.

So.  What is the wisdom on how I should handle these pages.  I'm assuming I should no index them?  Also, does anyone have a compelling reason I should keep the pages active for some reason?  Just move them to a different section or something? (I'm really thinking not on this...but I'm open to discussion.)

Thank you times one million in advance.

Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day Eve!

For handling past wedding pages on your travel agency website:

Noindex: Yes, it's a good practice to noindex the past wedding pages to prevent them from being crawled and indexed by search engines. This helps avoid unnecessary 404 errors and ensures your site focuses on current and relevant content.

Redirect: If there's a specific reason to retain the URLs or if you have relevant content to redirect users to, consider setting up 301 redirects from the past wedding pages to a relevant section or a consolidated page for archived events.

Archive Section: You could create an archive section for past weddings, keeping them accessible for those interested but not directly impacting your main SEO efforts. This way, users can find them if needed, but they won't clutter your main navigation or search results.

Remember, the goal is to maintain a clean and user-friendly site structure while optimizing for SEO.

            Unpublished?   404's?

I would not delete them.  Instead, I would enhance them (with permission of the bride and groom).  Ask the bride, groom and family and attendees, the photographer, the baker, the florist, the officiant, the catering service to contribute photos, memories, and more.  If you provide good reasons, people will share these pages, link to them, revisit them, browse them and more.  Imagine links from the photographer's site, bakers, florist, etc...

As your collection for a specific destination grows you have more cred in search, more in bound links, more type-ins and direct traffic to your website.  Allow people to sign up to receive a message a few weeks after the wedding when the page has some enhancements.

Yes, this will take a lot of work but it might be worth it.  It might be an add on that you can use to earn an extra fee. You might be able to get an interface where the bride and groom or their friends can help build and take the work burden off of you.  This might be used in advance of the wedding to communicate.

Just wild ideas as I am not in this business but know how many people like to build things and share stuff.

              Q&A Page Titles

Hello All! I am currently updating page titles and metadata descriptions for a websites Q&A section and have run in to a problem while updating page titles.  Since it is the Q&A section of the website, all of the page titles are around 100 characters and some are up to 200 characters long.  Here is an example: Page Title:  My child is working below grade level in math. Do I have to purchase the curriculum from the grade below as well? The problem is that this is obviously too long for a SERP to display however I know it is best practice to have matching titles on both the title tag and page title.  My question is what hurts SEO value more:  the title tag and title of the page not matching or having a very long title displayed on the SERP?

              Pages for similar keywords?

I have a site that wants to target the keywords listed below. They are a small company with just a few ski chalets in Val d'Isere, a ski resort in France. They don't have ski chalets in any other ski resort. Val d'Isere chalets
              luxury ski chalets
              luxury ski chalets Val d'Isere
              catered chalet Val d'Isere
              catered chalet val d isere
              catered ski chalet val d'isere
              catered ski chalets
              chalets in Val d'isere
              chalets in val d isere
              luxury catered ski chalets
luxury ski chalets Their domain name includes "valdisere" but I can't get this site onto Page 1, it keeps lingering on Page 2 and 3. I wondered how you would approach this site with pages? Would you reply on the homepage to rank for all these terms or create seperate pages for the terms, and if so how would you group the terms per page?

              Duplicate pages

Hi I have recently signed up to Moz Pro and the first crawl report on my wordpress site has brought up some duplicate content issues. I don't know what to do with this data! The original page : http://www.dwliverpoolphotography.co.uk/blog/ and the duplicate content page : http://www.dwliverpoolphotography.co.uk/author/david/ If anyone can point me to  a  resource or explain what I need to do thanks! David.

              Duplication in landing page

This is driving me mad, I have a site that for some reason google and moz pick up the landing page as a duplicate. They see "mysite/" and "mysite/index.html" as two different pages and giving me warnings for duplication. I have no 301 included at this time and I am using foundation as the base. This is occurring both on a localhost test bed and live....... anyone got an idea how to correct.

              Editing Author Pages

Hi, Quick question regarding author pages. I have the blog set as me for my author page. so the url is: mysite.com/blog/author/miles/ Now, seomoz has picked up that my author page is missing meta description. But, this cannot be editied through wordpress as there is no edit option available. I may really be missing something, but where can I alter the author page, I have a feeling it might be fed from G+ but no really sure what part of G+ is used as the description. Thanks Miles

Dupelicate content home page and custom page question

I am working on a website that got hit by the penguin update. Didn't get hit terribly bad, but dropped from number one to number 9. As I'm going through the pages, the theme and content is a mess. To give an example, say the site is about custom colored marbles. The main page content covers custom colored marbles, custom promotional marbles, custom glass marbles, etc. Custom colored marbles is mentioned and covered on all pages, which I am going back and trying to make each page theme specific. There is also a custom page, so I am at a cross roads on how best to employ the focus of the custom page and the home page. I am thinking the home page should emphasize colored marbles, and the custom page should emphasize custom colored marbles. My fear is that making such a drastic change will bounce the site completely off front page and that it will take time for the custom page to come up in rankings. AS it stands now I am confused as to how it even ranks on first page as there's two pages with custom colored marbles emphasis. Id like to clean this up as much as possible so there are no big hits with future google updates, but I don't want the site to drop off either as that would be hard to explain to the owner. Yeah, we are cleaning up your site and making it google compliant and in so doing you no longer rank on first page. That won't put food on the table. Thanks for any advise on this.

              Too many on page links

Our home page (and 1400 of our other pages) have well over 100 links, going beyond the recommend amount.  Our competitors have less on page links (to other pages on their site) and way more link popularity so we are trying to figure out the best solution for this without hurting our sites conversions and usbaility.
