There are a large number of missing backlinks (old) which are not showing on Moz but do show on Ahrefs.

Is there a reason for this?

      Thanks.

Find broken links on other websites in your niche. Use tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to discover these opportunities. Once you identify a broken link, reach out to the website owner, inform them of the dead link, and suggest your site as a replacement.

@chriscjpi Each tool has its schedule for updating and refreshing its backlink database. One tool may update more frequently than the other, leading to differences in the reported data.
The frequency at which each tool's crawler visits and indexes websites can vary. If one tool crawls more frequently website like ivcam Crack, it may pick up on backlinks that the other tool hasn't discovered yet

Differences in the backlink data provided by different tools like Moz and Ahrefs can be attributed to several factors. Each tool uses its own web crawlers and algorithms to gather and process data, leading to variations in the results. Here are some reasons why you might see differences in backlink data between Moz and Ahrefs:

                    Crawling Frequency and Depth:

Each tool has its own crawling schedule and depth. Some tools may crawl the web more frequently or deeply than others, leading to variations in the backlinks they discover.
                    Crawling Sources:

Tools may use different sources for crawling the web. They might have different partnerships, access to different websites, or utilize unique methods to discover backlinks.
                    Data Processing Algorithms:

The algorithms used by each tool to process and filter backlink data may differ. This can result in variations in how they identify and report backlinks.
                    Quality and Accuracy of Data:

The quality and accuracy of the data collection process play a crucial role. Some tools may have more sophisticated algorithms or better data filtering mechanisms, leading to more accurate results.
                    Index Updates:

Tools update their backlink indexes at different intervals. Ahrefs and Moz may not update their indexes simultaneously, causing differences in the reported backlink data.
                    Blocked or Restricted Access:

Some websites may block certain web crawlers or limit access to specific user agents. If one tool is blocked or restricted, it may miss certain backlinks that another tool can access.
                    Historical Data Differences:

Historical data, especially for older backlinks, might not be as comprehensive or up-to-date in one tool compared to another.
It's common for discrepancies to exist between different SEO tools, and it's generally advisable to use multiple tools to cross-verify and get a more comprehensive view of your backlink profile. If you notice significant differences, it could be worthwhile to investigate the specific reasons behind those variations or consult the support/documentation of each tool for more insights.

@globalstudy54 This is really well explained, thank you! The numbers for my site are different in both (and neither seem to actually be correct!). So definitely about seeing what both detectives have dug up and then adding a bit of your ow knowledge as well.

@skchad13j Absolutely! So, in the SEO world for my Educational Consultancy, think of Moz and Ahrefs like two detectives solving a case differently. They use unique methods to find and track backlinks. Sometimes, their findings don't match up exactly. To get the full picture, I'd recommend using both tools, sort of like having two detectives cross-checking each other’s work. It ensures we're not missing any clues about how our consultancy appears online and who's talking about us. It's all about getting that comprehensive view!

The disparity in backlink data between Moz and Ahrefs can be attributed to differences in their web crawling and indexing algorithms. Each tool uses its own methodology to discover and track backlinks. Factors such as the frequency of updates, the sources they crawl, and the criteria for including backlinks in their databases can vary. It's not uncommon to observe variations between different SEO tools. To ensure comprehensive backlink analysis, it's advisable to use multiple tools and cross-reference the data.

Unsolved Struggling to recouple backlinks that lead to 404 after a redesign launch

                                backlink profile

We had a site redesign launch a few months ago. Due to other priorities / a lot of things going on, there were a decent amount of URLs that 404ed. We implemented a drupal module search404 to redirect all of these to the homepage or a search results page that pulls search terms from the 404 page. Our goal is to recoup SEO value since we saw a notable dip in domain authority and amount of links after launch. We know a catch-all automated solution like this isn't ideal because it's better to 301 each page to its most relevant live page. For example, if CNN.com links to our Texas location, it's better to 301 to our new texas page than a homepage or search page. The problem is that since we implemented this catch all search404 module, it seems like tools like Moz Pro and Screaming Frog are not picking up the backlinks from external sites that 404 since they were "fixed" by the search404 module. Any ideas on solutions? We're trying to avoid tedious or risky solutions like undoing the module, which may bring back the 404s but cause some UX and SEO issues so we can run a SF crawl. Or going through every link in our link profile manually to check.

                                Do I need backlinks?

Hi, My theory is yes I do. But the problem I have is a small budget and competitors who have a big one. My problem is we have a small number of external links and linking root domains. My profile from a domain analysis read like this in March and then May... External Followed Links - Mar 103 | May 257
                                Total External Links ------- Mar 114 | May 276 Total Links ------------------- Mar 5,577 | May 24,425 Followed Linking Root Domains - Mar 24 | May 47
Total Linking Root Domains ------- Mar 30 | May 55 As you can see, progrss is being made considering I do this part time for a family website. But what I need is a big bump in these numbers as my 3 compeitors are pulling in silly numbers such as 308, 7000 and 45000 external followed links. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to compete with this realisticy without spending a fortune? I am putting the time and effort in so anything you guys can do to help the better. I am using twitter and facebook quite a bit, and seen growth on Twitter go from 40 to 1,350 followers over 7 months. Visits to the site over 7 months have gone up 50% as well. However sales are still looking about 10-15% up on previous year. I need more links coming into the site don't I? And what is the most important part of the Domain Analysis, what shoudl I want to increase first and foremost? Any ideas? Cheers Will

Open Site explorer (last 1-3 updates) shows new and wierd results

Hi Moz'ers! I have a questions for you guys. Can you explain why the website "Netspiren" has a lower "domain Authority" than "Duft og Natur"? See screenshot. I know it's a tough question without a detailed analysis, but looking at OSE's data, does the mozrank, moztrust, C-block don't reflect the power of the Domain Authority. What's you take? BTW: "Netspiren" has always had more and better links, and also had a higher Domain Authority. Something about the Domain Authority changed since the past 1-3 OXE updates. Looking forward for your take on this! Have a good weekend! mnRPI.png

Has SEOMoz Domain Authority calc been updated recently

As ever, my apologies if this question's been asked before -- I searched for it, and didn't find it. But, our SEOMoz 'Domain Authority' has recently really jumped (from 67, where it was for many months, to 77).  And, our number of Linking Root Domains increased as well, from 1,986 to 3,349) Of course, none of this has translated into Google goodness, but if any of it's true, maybe it WILL in the future?  Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks, Dave (www.TeachStreet.com)

                                Backlink confusion

I've gotten confused when it comes to the Competitive Analysis Report in the Web App. I track in my own spreadsheet how many backlinks I accumulate. However, I had thought that the Competitive Analysis report would do that as well. But each month, the numbers of Total LInks- through Linking c-blocks changes up and down drastically. I clicked HELP to try and understand what each of these means, but could you please explain them to me? I was under the impression that External Followed Links are the ones I was going after, however, shouldn't my records match with the one in the web app? Somehow I went from 786 ext followed links in January, to 867 in Feb, to 804 in March, to 804 in April, then 973 in May, and dropped to 791 2 weeks later...I don't think I'm understanding how the web app calculates these numbers. And how come Domain Authority seems to fluctuate up and down? So what would be the best way to track my progress in accumulating backlinks? Would it be my own spreadsheet or do you have a tool for this? Because I'd like to see how many I've gotten since January, but don't understand how to see this in the webapp. HELP!
